Lake effect snow makes way into NW Indiana

At 6AM CST as northerly winds gusting over 30 miles and hour combined with single-digit temperatures to give early-morning wind chills in the -15 to -25-degrees range, the lake-effect snow plume had moved out of Chicago into northwest Indiana. Snowfall totals over a half-foot were common across Chicago with storm totals 7.2 inches at Midway Airport and 5.9 inches at the official O’Hare observing site. Another observer a mile south of the center of the city came in with a 6.9-inch snowfall total.
