From deli clerk to grocery store CEO: Bob Mariano’s supermarket success
For Bob Mariano, it has been one sweet ride.
No cakewalk, but the type of ride you could only dream of. In about three years, Mariano’s has cooked up a cult-like following.
“For me its constant, never being satisfied,” Mariano said.
But satisfaction is exactly what he may be getting. Mariano, who started as a deli clerk at Dominick’s and later became its CEO, was let go from the grocery giant. Since then, he has managed to purchase, under the Roundy’s name, 11 Dominick’s stores of the 72 closing for the bargain price of $36 million.
The grocery giant sat down with WGN’s Lourdes Duarte, just weeks before the first of those 11 stores opens up.
