Police, mayor detail crime-fighting strategy for 2014
Mayor Emanuel, Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy, and district commanders gathered Thursday to formulate their crime-fighting strategy for 2014.
They reviewed sensitive information and crime statistics from 2013, and used that data as a guideline for this new year.
In 2013, police seized 6,000 guns. The city also saw its fewest homicides since 1965.
“Reducing crime, making less arrests, but making better arrests more specific, putting hands on people, ANOV’s, contact cards, keeping you officers on the streets,” said McCarthy during the CompStat meeting at the Public Safety Headquarters.
