Barrington police said they have launched an investigation after being called to the scene of an infant girl’s death just after noon Wednesday.
Police didn’t identify the dead person or say if there were outward signs of foul play. But they did say the Cook County Major Case Assistance Team has been called in to help investigate, something that typically isn’t done unless a death is considered suspicious.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office said Mya Edwards, a 7-month-old girl, from the 100 block of South Hager in Barrington was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:19 p.m. Police confirmed it was the girl’s death they were investigating.
A spokesman with the medical examiner’s office said that an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
Police said more information “will become available as the investigation proceeds.”
