Bitterly cold temps move into Chicago area: Forecast

Accumulating snow isn’t the issue today, instead we’re being greeted by bitter cold temperatures.

We can expect filtered sunshine during the day as southwest winds strengthen heading into the afternoon.  Wind chills will range from -15 to -2 degrees throughout the day as the actual air temperature tops out in the mid to upper teens.

Blowing and drifting snow will likely be an issue, mainly in open areas this afternoon, through tonight and into Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 4 p.m. today until 9 a.m. Saturday, with the potential of blizzard-like conditions due to blowing snow.

Milder conditions are expected Saturday, but as the day continues the chance of snow becomes likely.

Accumulating snow will remain possible Saturday night  into Sunday.  The leading edge of a blast of arctic air arrives Sunday and record-breaking cold temperatures could be with us Monday and Tuesday.
