The snowfall and cold temperatures didn’t stop about 800 people from kicking off their new year’s resolutions of eating well and exercising.

They took part in the “Commitment Day 5K fun walk/run event” at Grant Park Wednesday morning. Life Time Fitness started it.

Mark Smith won the event with a time of around 18 minutes.

“The cold, the snow, who wants to be out here? But you know what, this is actually really refreshing. I love it, and I’m glad I’m here, and this is a great way to start out the new year,” said runner Raul Esparza.
