Almost every state has enacted at least one new gun law in the 12 months since the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
Nearly two-thirds of the new laws ease restrictions and expand the rights of gun owners.
Starting Wednesday in Illinois, people will be allowed to apply for the right to carry guns in their pockets or purses.
Only people with state Firearms Owner ID cards will be allowed to apply for concealed-carry permits.
A lingering problem with the law is the confusion over what establishments and facilities may still outlaw handguns. And other gun laws are also causing confusion, since they may differ throughout the state.
So what should you legally know about the new laws in Illinois? Attorney Ned Robertson tells you what you need to know on WGN Midday News.
