New initiative aims to better show government spending

Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka announced today a new transparency initiative to allow the public to keep closer tabs on how state lawmakers are spending money.

Topinka says she hopes it highlights all the money being wasted in Springfield especially on the government itself.

An insert will now be included in all tax returns showing what Illinois agencies spend, the size of the state’s bill backlog and resources for additional financial information.
