A man from Texas is jailed in Chicago after a car crash that killed his 4-year-old son.

Franklin Jackson is charged with reckless homicide and aggravated dui; police say he was behind the wheel on the Dan Ryan expressway Sunday, when he suddenly swerved hard to the right and hit a guardrail near 87th St.

The force of the crash threw his son Franklin Jr. out of the car, head first, and killed him; the child had not been strapped into a safety seat.

Jackson told police he didn’t know his son had been thrown from the car; his wife and three other children weren’t hurt.
