Bail is set at $250,000 for a man charged after a 7-year-old boy allegedly found his gun and took it to school.
Police say Rashaad Byrd had a nine-millimeter gun with him while staying with a family in Elgin.
The boy found the gun and put it in his backpack.
Another student at Harriet Gifford Elementary School noticed the weapon, and told a teacher.
The boy could be expelled.
Byrd is charged with illegally having a weapon, and child endangerment.
The judge in the case set the high bond after learning Byrd has been arrested 42 times on various charges, including drug possession and aggravated battery to a police officer.
