Despite the cold, tens of thousands of Catholics are heading to the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Des Plaines tonight
Des Plaines is the second largest gathering in the Western Hemisphere for Feast of Our Lady Guadalupe.
Almost 500 years ago Juan Diego, an Aztec native, reportedly had multiple sightings of the Virgin Mary and celebrating that event since then in Mexico City has stretched here to the Midwest.
Hundreds gathered in Des Plaines to sing, pray and help serve Mass for the crowd gathered at the shrine that is expected to draw over 100,000 people by the end of tomorrow.
The feast officially begins at midnight.
