Freezing temps in Chicago, light snow possible this weekend

The cold weather that moved into the Chicago area Thursday will linger for at least a week, meteorologists say.

Friday will bring the coldest daytime temperatures since February, with an expected high of just 22 degrees and wind chills in the teens, according to WGN-TV’s chief meteorologist Tom Skilling.

Friday night will be even colder, with a predicted low at O’Hare International Airport of just 9 degrees.

The cold settled in Thursday after an unseasonably warm Wednesday, and forecasters expect it will last at least a week. Sunday’s predicted Chicago high of 30 degrees is the highest temperature expected through at least next Thursday, according to Skilling’s 7-day forecast.

Tuesday appears likely to be the coldest day in that span, with a predicted high of 13 degrees and a predict low of 0 degrees.
