Chicago announces domestic violence task force

A new task force was announced Tuesday to give Chicago Police officers new tools to handle domestic violence cases.

Officials say it will include state-of-the-art training to defuse tense situations which can quickly turn dangerous.   There are 30 to 40 domestic violence homicides annually in Chicago.

Goals of the new task force will be to develop and implement training for police officers, develop a proactive law enforcement response to domestic violence and increase services for victims and their families.

Mayor Emanuel, Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, and Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez made the announcement at city hall on Tuesday.
