Charges filed in police-involved shooting outside Romeoville Kohl’s

Two men are charged following a police-involved shooting near a Kohl’s store in Romeoville.

On Thursday night, police responded to a report of two men stealing clothing from the store at 261 S. Weber Road and saw the two men running from the store to a car and chased after them.

One officer got his arm caught in the suspect’s car during a struggle. The driver of the car ignored commands to stop and dragged the officer, police said. A second officer nearby fired three to four shots at the driver, striking him in the shoulder.

Robert Russell  is charged with attempted murder, shoplifting and obstructing a police officer. Gerald Chamberlain is charged with felony theft.

The injured officer and the driver of the car were hospitalized with injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening. As of Friday afternoon, the driver had not been charged.

Very good police work. These are three lucky thugs. If the driver had been killed, the other two thieves would have been charged with causing his death. Can't get them all.
