A man was killed after he drove his car around crossing gates and was hit by a Metra train in Lake Forest.

It happened just before 1:30 pm. Saturday  at Old Mill Road and Waukegan.

Witnesses said the 35-year-old driver ignored warning lights and bells as he drove around the crossing gate.

The train dragged the car nearly 100 yards before stopping.

No one else was hurt.

The train involved, Milwaukee District-North Line train No. 2612, was headed for Chicago from Fox Lake at the time of the crash, said Metra spokesman Tom Miller.

The Headline is incorrect, It reads "Man killed by Metra train" but should read "Man killed by stupidity"

Stupidity has consequences. Trains always win. People like him now leave behind family who have to deal with their lose. A terrible thing he's making his family bare because of his thoughtlessness.

If he was as smart as he drove, he was probably texting and never saw the train until it was reflecting off the phone screen.
