As tornadoes cut a swath of damage across Illinois, one of them cut a four-mile path of destruction in the communities of Coal City and Diamond.
Dozens of homes near the Will-Grundy County line was either flattened or heavily damaged Sunday.
Some homes that were left standing have shattered windows and big cracks in the outer walls.
Families had to huddle in their basements while to tornado rumbled overhead. One resident of diamond, Tabatha Cirrencione, said, “It was just shaking like a freight train. It was very loud, and the pressure from it felt like your head was going to explode.”
An overnight curfew was declared in the Diamond Estates subdivision to prevent looting.
Schools in Coal City will be closed for the day.
