Boy, 6, guides family to safety during Washington IL tornado
Governor Quinn is recognizing a 6-year old boy today for getting his family to safety as a deadly tornado barreled toward their home in Washington, Illinois.
Brevin Hunter says he was playing a video game when he heard the wail of the emergency sirens Sunday.
His mother heard it too, but says the skies looked calm, so she thought it was just a drill.
Brevin wouldn’t let her ignore the warning.
The family made it into the basement just minutes before the tornado hit their home.
Brevin says he showed his family how to crouch on the ground and cover their heads.
Their home was reduced to rubble and they’re staying at an emergency shelter at a nearby church.
