The town of Washington took a direct hit when the storms cut a path through Illinois.
Steve Neubauer, 51, was the lone fatality of the destruction. An autopsy is scheduled for later Monday, according to Tazewell County Coroner’s Office.
Dozens of homes were damaged or destroyed. There are reports of entire neighborhoods being wiped out.
Power has been knocked out throughout the city.
A curfew was in effect in the town until 7 a.m. to keep people safe and to keep looters out.
Several shelters have been set up to take in those without a home.
The Red Cross is helping out.
Governor Quinn is expected to visit the area later this morning.
