House ethics panel drops Roskam probe

The House Ethics Committee is dropping its investigation into Illinois Congressman Peter Roskam, citing ‘insufficient evidence’.

The panel was looking into a $25,000 trip to Taiwan he took with his wife in 2011.

There was concern Roskam violated house rules or federal law by going on the privately sponsored trip.

The committee voted unanimously to close the matter.

Roskam, 52, of Wheaton, is the chief deputy whip for House Republicans, which puts him fourth in his party’s leadership.
