Metra train fatally strikes man in Tinley Park

A Metra train on the Rock Island District line struck and killed a pedestrian Friday morning in Tinley Park.

The train was traveling northbound near 80th Avenue when it struck a pedestrian shortly before 6 a.m., Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.

The victim was later identified as a fifth-grade teacher at a Tinley Park elementary school.

Community Consolidated School District 146 officials said the teacher worked at Memorial School in Tinley Park for 9 years.

The district is offering crisis support for students and staff Friday and next week.

The Chicago Tribune contributed to this report.
