NIU student arrested after guns found in dorm room

A Northern Illinois student who is an army veteran was arrested after police found two guns in his campus dorm room.

29-year-old Kevin Ouwenga of Tinley Park is charged with unlawful use of a weapon.

He has a firearm owner’s ID card, but guns are banned on campus.

A school employee noticed a package mailed to Ouwenga was from a weapons company and alerted campus police.

This is a tough one, however ignorace isn't acceptable in a situation like this. If he claims he wasn't aware of the disaster that happened there some years ago, shame on him. But do you give him a second chance?? I dunno….

The disaster could have been mitigated had someone fought back with a gun. Once again, making sure no one can defend themselves is backward.
