2008 mental health care guidelines finally to be enforced
Americans finally may find it easier to get access to mental health care.
Guidelines have been in place since 2008 to require doctors and insurers to treat mental illness the same as physical illness, but there’s been virtually no enforcement of it.
Insurance companies often cover mental illness in a more limited fashion than physical illness, but under Obamacare final rules are now in place.
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced the guidelines today.
