The dog of a hiker stranded in the Canadian wilderness saved his life by chasing a bear away but the hiker had to eat the dog to stay alive.
Marco Lavoie, 44, is an experienced outdoorsman. But all his supplies were destroyed by a bear just two days into an expedition that he planned to last a few weeks.
His German Shepherd was able to scare the bear away before it attacked Marco.
After that, Marco was able to stay alive for three months with virtually no equipment.
An animal expert says, “He survived because he made good decisions. Eating his dog was one of them.”
He is now in the hospital in serious condition.
