Chicago animal care worker bitten by dog, hospitalized

A Chicago Animal Care and Control worker was seriously injured when she was bitten by a pit bull at the city pound this morning, officials said.

The woman, age 47, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious-to-critical condition after she was bitten several times about 9:35 a.m. at Animal Care and Control headquarters, 2741 S. Western Avenue, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Chief Juan Hernandez.

Animal Care and Control officials would only confirm that an animal care employee was injured while handling an animal at the building, and that the employee was receiving medical attention.

“To respect the employee’s privacy, we do not have any additional information at this time,” Animal Care and Control spokesman Brad Powers said in an email.
