Brad Ausmus, who has never managed for a major league organization, is interviewing today for the Chicago Cubs’ vacant position.

Despite his lack of experience, Ausmus, 44, is highly regarded in baseball circles. Ausmus currently serves as a special assistant with the San Diego Padres after an 18-year playing career that included three Gold Glove Awards for his defensive excellence.

The Detroit Tigers interviewed Ausmus for their managerial opening on Monday.

Last fall, Ausmus managed Team Israel that failed to qualify for the 2013 World Baseball Classic. Ausmus is a graduate of Dartmouth College, earning his degree while playing in the New York Yankees’ system.

Why don,t the Cubs go after Jimmy Leyland. He would be a great fit and would demand respect from some of those lazy players we tend to have. Get a good one who is a name coach, not some newbee.
