Disgraced ex-congressman Jesse Jackson Jr reported to federal prison in Butner North Carolina yesterday – and then again today.
His attorney CK Hoffler escorted the former Chicago congressman to the prison doors Monday, days before he was expected to report to the prison.
“We drove Sunday from D.C. to Butner after he said goodbye to his wife and kids,” Hoffler said.
He then waited until Monday afternoon to enter the gates. He was assigned to the minimum security prison to serve his 30 month sentence.
But it didn’t work. After saying goodbye to his lawyer and another fellow congressman, they headed to the airport and Jackson Jr headed inside for processing. Sometime later, Hoffler learned something was wrong with Jackson’s paperwork. He suddenly found himself checking out of prison.
Jackson stayed overnight at a local hotel in Butner.
This morning at 10, he reported to prison for a second time. The man once poised to rise to great heights has taken a fall so far from grace. The ex-congressman traded in his power suits for prison khakis.
