Anger over alleged police brutality case in Skokie

A community activist group expressed outrage on Friday over an alleged police brutality case in Skokie. The incident was captured on jailhouse video.

Cassandra Feuerstein was arrested for a DUI back in March. Surveillance video shows an officer take her by the arm, and apparently shove her back into a cell. She goes face-first into a bench.

She filed a lawsuit. In it, she claims her injuries required facial reconstructive surgery and the insertion of a titanium plate. She also says the officer made false statements about why he shoved her. Police filed a court document, and argued she resisted the officer.

The Chicago Alliance against Racist and Political Oppression is outraged the officer hasn’t been fired.

“This police officer has clearly violated the law. He must be held accountable for his actions,” said Mark Clements, a community activist.

The group delivered letters to Skokie’s police chief, mayor, and the Cook County Board.

It says if the officer isn’t fired within 30 days, then it will hold a large rally.

The officer hasn’t been charged, so their name has not been released.
