Proposal would force city bike riders to pay up

In an effort to raise money for the cash-strapped city, Alderman Pat Dowell is proposing all bike owners pay an annual $25 registration fee and attend a mandatory one-hour safety class.

Mayor Rahm Emmanuel has not yet responded as to whether or not he would support the proposal.

Dowell is expected to release additional information on her proposal on Thursday.

To be honest I think you might foresee the future with a fee to enter the city–give it time they will figure that out and make it happen. I agree too many fees. My family is cash strapped and there is no one to charge a "fee" to help us out. We live within our means and give up a lot just to stay within budget. Maybe the city could learn from all of us!

How about we institute a registration fee of $100 for those elected to office? It is renewed every month and a fine of $50 for a replacement?

So each little kid would be in class with each adult? we would have to pay 25 dollars each year for the bicycle of our three year old child? and that child would have to take a safety class? How would the cops enforce this? I dont carry ID when i ride my bike, i would just say that i lived in Evanston, or Berwyn, and that i DONT NEED TO PAY THE FEE, how would the cops prove otherwise? a family of five would have to pay 125 dollars a year for their bicycles, GREAT way to get us to do sports!!!!
