Prosecutors: Man tried to kill witnesses against son
A man faces federal charges of trying to hire a hit man to kill two other men, to prevent them from testifying in a murder trial.
Travis Caguana, 19, will stand trial next week for killing 18-year-old Dante Smallwood on the Southwest Side two years ago.
Federal prosecutors say the defendant’s father, Euripides Caguana, met with a man Monday, asked him to kill two government witnesses against his son by Saturday and gave him a $2,000 advance.
The hit man was actually a federal informant, and the father now faces murder-for-hire charges.
