Chicago Police shoot and kill a man who they say refused to drop two knives during a domestic disturbance in Bridgeport.
It happened around 1 a.m. on Friday at an apartment at 3255 S. Halsted.
Police say officers were responding to a domestic battery when they saw 44 year-old Felix Valdez standing over his girlfriend with two knives in his hands. Neighbors say the couple was arguing for about an hour. The girlfriend was the one who called 9-1-1.
Police say they ordered Valdez to drop the knives three times, and then he allegedly lunged at officers.
“It’s very easy. When police tell you to drop the knife, drop the knife. Obviously the woman was concerned. She called police for her safety,” said Fraternal Order of Police Spokesman Pat Camden.
An official investigation is underway.
Relatives say Valdez is the father of 10 and worked as a security guard.
