O’Hare Airport is getting a new runway.

Runway 10-Center is 10,800 feet long and 200 feet wide and as of today, for business.  It will support 150 take offs and 112 landings an hour. That’s every 15 seconds.

The number of flights arriving will increase by about 50% in good weather and 25% in low visibility.

There are high hopes for this new runway. So far this year, O’Hare ranks last for on time departures and third from the bottom for on-time arrivals. Runway 10C is expected to alleviate that.

But air traffic patterns are now changed creating a 30% eastbound flow and  70% westbound, creating more noise for those who live underneath and nearby.

Another runway is set to debut in 2015.
