Arson ruled out in deadly house fire
Arson was not the cause of a deadly house fire on the South Side, Chicago fire investigators said Wednesday.
The fire started in the basement of a home at 76th and Emerald Tuesday morning.
The blaze then spread to two other homes.
Firefighters say the flames were so intense and moved so quickly that they couldn’t get into the house right away.
The fire killed 11-month-old Mi’leyah Johnson and her babysitter, Geneva White, 49.
Investigators are still looking into the exact cause of the fire.
There have been at least three house fires in the neighborhood recently.
Firefighters went door-to-door Tuesday and passed out smoke detectors to homeowners in the area.
