Cubs shift gears after Joe Girardi signs 4-year contract with Yankees

The Chicago Cubs’ search for a manager will steer in another direction after the New York Yankees announced Wednesday in a tweet that Joe Girardi agreed to a four-year contract through 2017.

Girardi, a former Cubs player, was the focus of the Cubs’ pursuit after firing Dale Sveum on Sept. 30. They will now place their focus on a group of candidates that includes former major league managers Manny Acta and A.J. Hinch and San Diego Padres bench coach Rick Renteria.
