A 13-year old boy is recovering after he was shot in the Englewood neighborhood.
The shooting happened about 3:15 p.m. Monday on South Halsted just south of Garfield in the Englewood neighborhood.
The Chicago Fire Dept says the boy was shot in the back and was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in serious to critical condition.
Family and friends are gathered at the hospital this evening for word on the boy’s condition after he underwent surgery.
They say for the last year, has been a member of the mentoring program sponsored by Pastor Corey Brooks from New Beginnings Church.
Police are currently on the scene investigating the incident.
A few hours later. the son of community activist Hal Baskin was shot near 66th and South Peoria. Hal Baskin Jr., who is 25-years-old, is in stable condition at the hospital.
His father says his son’s shooting was random and part of a bigger problem in Englewood.
