Chill in the air to last a day
The massive autumn storm system, which paralyzed portions of the High Plains with fierce winds, and as much as 4 feet of snow, will weaken as it tracks across the upper Midwest on Sunday. This same system was responsible for triggering thunderstorms across the Chicago area late Saturday afternoon. High winds and large hail were reported in a few locations across the area, but of greater note was the intense lightning and torrential downpours.
Temperatures on Saturday reached 80 degrees or higher across the metro area. Readings on Sunday will run 15 to 20 degrees colder, as chilly air arrives on gusty southwest winds. On Monday, a deep upper-level low is forecast to pass across the Midwest, bringing periods of rain, along with the chilliest weather of the season thus far.
