No pay for VA civilian employees during shutdown
The Department of Veterans Affairs will continue operating during the federal government shutdown, but not all the employees will be getting paid.
VA civilian employees, at the James Lovell FHCC in North Chicago, were given a memo about the predicament.
It says funds will not be available after the pay period that ends Saturday, October 5.
All Lovell employees are still expected to show up as scheduled.
They will be paid, but not until after the government shutdown ends.
This does not affect the current pay period, but it will likely impact the one that ends October 19th.
Any leave taken on, or after, October 6th will be considered approved leave without pay.
“The staff should keep reporting. We have patients to serve,” said Lovell Public Affairs specialist Stephanie McCrobie. “This will have minimal impact on our patients. Our staff is expected to report for duty and as soon as the situation in (Washington, DC) resolves itself, they will be paid.”
Lovell is holding four town hall meetings for VA Civilian employees and Supervisors on October 4.
