Police bust 100+ for texting and driving

After setting up target areas near Montrose and Addison on the inbound Kennedy Expressway this morning, Illinois State Police issued 135 citations for distracted driving.

More than 100 of the 135 were for texting while driving.  The violation carries a fine of $120.

But texting while driving was not the only violation police found,  one man was stopped after police spotted him using an electric shaver as he drove on the expressway.

Electric shaver? I did know that was illegal too! Makes sense. I hope they get the people putting on make up too.

Why is it that police can be so effective where there is a monetary benefit like the fine but so ineffective where there is no monetary benefit like shootings, muggings, etc ?

Excellent! I'm so sick of seeing people day in and day out on their cell phones while driving. They are putting everyone on the street in danger. It's infuriating and an absolute shame that people continue to disregard this law when it is so clearly needed.

100 citations at $120 a pop, and in only one morning. That's $12,000! I say hire a squadron of police to issue citations all day and you will not only raise enough money to fund beat cops on every block in the city, but you might even change some drivers from this life-threading habit, thus saving two birds with one stone.

Agreed Kent. If people want to keep endangering others on the road, they get to help pay for a stronger police presence to fight the crime in the rest of the city. Also, cars should be impounded after the second offense and sold. It's like walking around with a loaded gun and your finger on the trigger. Self-centered azzhats.
