A U of I Doctoral student faces charges in ex-girlfriend’s murder

A University of Illinois doctoral student in Urbana will face charges in connection with the stabbing death of his ex-girlfriend. Police were called to the 1300 block of North Lincoln Avenue in Urbana around 11 a.m. Friday morning.

The victim’s roommate told police that 29-year-old Yongfei Ci forced his way into the apartment and held both women against their will. According to Police, Ci tied the roommate up and then killed his 25-year-old ex-girlfriend. Her name has not yet been released.

Police were able to identify a suspect and used his cell phone to locate him. Campus police sent out an alert identifying Ci. Ci contacted police and told them he would surrender.

He’s expected to appear in court Saturday.
