Train derailment cause of dead fish in Spoon River
Hundreds of fish are turning up dead in downstate Illinois due to a train derailment earlier this month.
The train was carrying corn syrup which leaked into the water.
Dead fish are now turning up on the banks of the Spoon River and a dam in Bernadotte, Illinois.
Crews are working to clean up the mess.
Environment officials say the syrup will dilute after a while and eventually wash away.
The Illinois EPA director wants to take action against the operator of the train.
