2nd person dies in Bolingbrook plane crash
The pilot of the small plane that crashed in a bank parking lot in Bolingbrook has died.
The pilot, identified as a 63-year-old man from Kentucky, was pronounced dead at 5:45 a.m. at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he had been taken with severe burns after the crash Wednesday evening. The man’s wife, the only other person on board, died at the scene.
The couple was attempting to land at the Clow International Airport at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, when witnesses say they heard a loud noise and the saw the plane explode.
The plane hit some trees, a light pole and three cars in the parking lot, but avoided hitting a bank.
Witnesses say the pilot walked away on fire.
That woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
No one on the ground was injured.
The FAA says the single-engine plane originated from an airport in Georgetown, Kentucky.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
