Des Plaines oasis to close on tollway

A bit of history is coming down on the Jane Addams Memorial tollway, all in the name of progress.

The crossover Des Plaines oasis glass pavilion will be removed beginning in April of next year.

This will be done in order to widen the tollway from three to four lanes in each direction.

Removing the oasis is also being done to make way for the extension of the Elgin-O’Hare Expressway.

Oasis lease holder SFI will be paid just over $9 million dollars because of the demolition.

The 7-11 convenience stores and gas stations on both sides of the oasis will remain for motorists.

The oasis has been there since 1959, but has suffered from vacancies.
