A woman was injured by a falling tree in the Gresham neighborhood, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
The tree fell about 11 a.m. and the majority of it landed in the intersection of 89th and Wallace Streets, said fire department spokesman Larry Langford.
The woman, who is in her 70s, was transported to Little Company of Mary Hospital in good condition, Langford said.
It is not clear if the woman was walking or inside a car.
The tree also fell on some power lines, said Langford.
Daughter
The woman is my mother. This tree has been rotten for years. Robert Jordan covered a story over 30 years ago of a man running into this tree while fleeing police. The tree bark never grew back and the tree has been rotting ever since. Neighbors have complained to the alderman about the tree asking repeatedly for it to be cut down. If it had, my 77 year old mother would not have been knocked to the ground by it.
