3-year-old among 13 shot at South Side park

Thursday was a violent night – even by Chicago standards.

Police say 23 people were shot, 13 of them during a pick-up basketball game at a South Side park.

It happened around 10:15 p.m. at Cornell Square Park at 51st and Wood St.

Witnesses say they saw two men get out of a grey sedan and start shooting at a group of people.

Three-year-old Deonta’ Howard was hit in the face and is now in critical but stable condition at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

Ten adults and two teenagers were also shot.

None of their injuries is considered life-threatening.

Police are still looking for suspects.

They said the shooting appeared to be gang-related.

Durbin wants "sensible gun laws". We already have them. What we desperately need are sensible politicians.

you are too nice. And patient. These Chicago politicians running the show in Chicago are hell bent on promoting chaos and confusion by doing nothing effective to stop the killings because they do not want to! Part of Obama's homework is to relieve us all oof our guns. Allowing these killings to continue is part of the strategy. Flood the streets with gun battles, take any one in the way like babies and toddlers and grandmother and you get the idea. This guy posing as a real mayor is a ruthless SOB. Obama the community organizer practiced his trade in Chicago..they are all
Communists. These traitors are unimaginably dangerous and hateful but those of us who recognize them for what they are and what they have done already to America are even more hateful if we let these tyrants finish us without a whimper. Sometimes it is not recommendable to take the high road and try to reason. They do not respect those things. In fact, they take advantage of those things.

My question is this. Isn't there a curfew in Chicago? Why is a 3 year old out at 10:30 PM? Has anyone even thought about that. And also I thought that Chicago park districts are closed after 9:00 PM. So go home and home reading a book to your kids. Rahm you re in DC with your buddy Obama while the military is not oing to get paid but there is money for your waste of time trip. Humm. So forget the rallies and if you chose to have children then raise them the right way.

Totally crazy!! Makes me sick to my stomach! By the way I can't understand why the Mother of the 3 yr old isn't arrested as well. Her daughter should have never been outside at that time hanging out with older people in a park…Come on…This city will do it's best to make sure kids are inside at a reasonable hour….yeah right. IT'S A SHAME! VERY SAD AND I HOPE THE PARENT LEARNS A LESSON AS WELL FROM ALL THIS.

Exactly!!! Why is a baby out this late? The mother should be arrested and charged with child endangerment. DCFS should investigate. This is BAD parenting! The media needs to report this part of the story! Stand up WGN.
