CPS-distributed fans leave one 1st grader with haircut
What started as an effort to help school kids cool off in classroom without air conditioning ended in an unexpected haircut for one first grader.
As temperatures climbed this week, Chicago Public Schools distributed thousands of small, hand-held fans to schools that are not fully air-conditioned.
At the Smyser Elementary School on the Northwest Side, a 6-year-old girl got her hair caught in the fan, and had to have it cut off.
The girl’s mother tells the Sun-Times, her daughter said some students were putting fans in their mouths, and the fans were taken away.
