Woman dies after being pulled from car in Lake George

A Valparaiso woman who was pulled from her sinking car in Hobart has died.

Rescuers pulled 83-year-old Shirley Gronlund to out of a car which plunged into Lake George this afternoon.

Hobart police say the car was heading down Main St when the driver hit a pole.  The car continued to Front St, smashing through a steel fence and flew about 20 yards into the water where it began to sink.

Rescue crews including a dive team went into the water and broke the car window to get the woman, police said.

The woman was taken to St Mary’s Hospital where she later died

The cause of the accident is unclear at this time.

    Sometimes I see really bad drivers near me and I get that feeling that they're trying to p**s me off with this ridiculous driving, then I see it's a senior and they can't help it. I'm just blown away by some of the people still allowed to drive among us. It's pretty scarey to think that one day
    that will be me trying to drive around like that.

    Totally agree with age thing, but then again I know seniors that truely have that sense of entitlement just because they are seniors. They give themselves bad rap for being grouchy, unpolite, and just plain RUDE. And you wonder why cartoonist depict them as they do…
