Forecast: Humid temps, decreasing cloudiness; High – 91

A heat-starved summer is playing catch up as the city braces for its first back-to-back 90s so late in the season since September 10-13, 2005 when four straight 90s were logged.

If the mercury reaches 95 degrees Tuesday, it will not only tie the day’s high temperature record set in 1983 but will be the city’s hottest reading this late in the season since a pair of 95-degree highs that year on September 9-10.

A cold front promises to bring some gusty thunderstorms Tuesday night into Wednesday setting the stage for a taste of autumn as cool Canadian air arrives for the end of the week that will drop temperatures as much as 25 degrees to around 70 by Friday on what promises to be a cloudy day with some lake-effect showers.

Slowly moderating temperatures will follow with the mercury rebounding to near 80 by Sunday.
