Chicago man locates teen couple missing for nearly 2 weeks

A teenage boy and his girlfriend who ran away together last month from Michigan were found safe Sunday in Chicago.

Nearly two weeks ago, 14-year-old Braxton Wood and 13-year-old Jayden Thomas left their central Michigan homes, stealing Wood’s mother’s Ford Explorer and ran away.  Their parents say they were going to go to different high schools and were upset.  They hadn’t been heard from since.

CaptureNo one could find them until this morning when Chicago resident Mark Sipperer took his dog for a walk to Starbucks and saw a boy who fit Braxton Wood’s description at the Mobile gas station on Broadway and Sheridan.  Just an hour or so earlier, Zipperer was watching the news and heard the tearful pleas of two sets of parents begging their son and daughter to come home.

The boy was getting into a black Ford Explorer with Michigan license plates.  Mark says it looked like someone had been camping out in the car.  He went to Starbucks, checked Facebook for the picture again and called police.

They came right away.

Braxton and Jayden were in the car that had run out of gas.  They were also low on money.  They may have been in the are because they wanted to see Wrigley Field.

It is a great end to a story that could have taken a tragic turn.  Zipperer is a good Samaritan who had the courage to get involved.
