Two women from the west suburbs were killed overnight when a wrong-way driver crashed into their car on the Eisenhower Expressway.
State Police said just before 2:00 a.m. Saturday, a red dodge minivan entered I-290 the wrong way at the Harlem Exit. The van was heading westbound in the east bound lanes.
The driver, 20-year-old Miguel Rico, struck a 2001 blue ford, killing two of the three women inside– 20-year-old Monica Hernandez of Maywood and 19-year-old Briana Resto of Northlake. 20-year old Brittney Mouzan of Maywood survived the crash and describes a horrific scene.
“I look over and I see Monica and I was like Monica wake up and she wouldn’t move I couldn’t touch to see if she was breathing or anything and I looked back and Brianna was too far back I couldn’t reach back to get her,” Brittney said.
Briana Resto was one of the two killed din the crash. Her mother, Kathy Resto-Marquez says she is still waiting for her to come home.
“She said bye mom, god bless you and she kissed me on the lips and she said ill see you in a couple of hours.”
Briana was a graduate of West Leyden High School, a former basketball player and was planning for a career in law enforcement and was also considering military service. Her Mom describes a girl with goals and ambition, working six days a week, and after only five months on the job local at a Bakers Square restaurant Briana was being promoted to supervisor.
“She would spend her birthday money as a child to buy clothing and food or our next door neighbors that’s the kind of person she was she loved everybody and she was loved by everyone.”
Briana’s big brother was so proud of his little sister.
Eddy Anaya said “I just think of her like the ace in the deck like of all of us, she’s real smart she’s bright, funny goal driven she’s always thinking the next step ahead of how she can be better at something or make the best out of any situation.”
Police say they are investigating alcohol as the cause of this crash, the driver of the van, that police say caused the wreck was taken to the hospital and charges are pending.
“You chose to make those decisions and that affects so many people and it’s like you are going to be alive you get to walk away,” Brittney said. “You just destroyed three families.”
