E-cigarettes growing in popularity with teens

Chicagoans help on electronic cigarettes studyThe number of middle and high school students who use e-cigarettes doubled in 2012 from the previous year.

The data show one in ten high school students tried an e-cigarette last year.

Health officials are concerned that the devices could be creating as many health problems as they are solving.

The makers of e-cigarettes promote them as a healthy alternative to smoking, but researchers say the health effects are not clear.

They do acknowledge that they are less harmful than traditional cigarettes.
