Rahm to the rescue: Mayor aids injured bicyclist
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel reportedly ran to the aid of a bicyclist involved in an accident with a semi-truck this morning.
The biker was blindsided by a moving truck on Milwaukee Avenue around 8:30 a.m.
The accident happened near a coffee spot called Big Shoulders near the intersection of Milwaukee, Chicago and Ogden avenues in West Town.
Emanuel is said to be a local there and stopped by for his morning cup of Joe and he and others, like the coffee shop owner, heard a terrible crash outside.
The fire department who responded to the scene says the mayor lent the back seat of his SUV to the injured biker. She was on her way to work that morning when she and the truck collided.
Emanuel and his staff tended to her until rescue crews arrived then it was back to City Hall to start his day.
The woman did not go to the hospital. She suffered minor injuries.
